Finland’s largest private railway company

We transport our Finnish customer’s freight to a range of locations in Finland. Some examples of the freight types that we carry are materials for the energy industry and fertilisers, all-important for the world’s food supply and Finnish agriculture. We can also transport dangerous goods thanks to our extensive range of permits.

North Rail’s rail transport is a Finnish component in the security of food supply, a critically important factor for both Finland and Europe. This is a huge responsibility that is not to be taken lightly, which is why we approach it with utmost professionalism.

As a holder of a railway operating licence, we engage in close co-operation with the authorities and safety is our number one priority. We use a state-of-the-art IT system for coordinating all traffic.

Sustainability is an integral part of our operations and planning. As an example, we installed fuel heaters in our locomotives in order to reduce both emissions and fuel consumption. We are constantly striving towards a smaller environmental footprint and reduced emissions. We always transport customer-owned goods upon the customer’s order, which means that the company’s business has a direct impact on the well-being and employment of Finnish companies.

North Rail Oy is home to 60 highly skilled rail freight professionals, ranging from railway yard workers to locomotive drivers. North Rail operates in Harjavalta, the Port of Kotka in Mussalo, the Port of Hamina, Vainikkala, Kouvola, Siilinjärvi and Uusikaupunki. In Kotka, we also operate a maintenance hall for servicing and repairing the locomotives.
